Regulated goods directory
Various departments of government, as well as the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) have the authority to restrict and regulate goods imported and exported via South African borders.
Goods that are regulated typically require an import or export permit. These permits are granted per tariff (HS) codes and are valid for a year.
Use our regulated goods directories below to determine whether your shipment requires a permit.
To look for regulated imports:
To determine whether you import requires a permit, you will need the tariff (HS) code(s) relevant to the goods. Consult our tariff code directory if you do not already have this information.

Scroll down to locate your tariff code. Alternatively press “Control F” on your keyboard to open a search box at the top of your screen and type in your tariff code to locate it in the directory as shown in the image below.
The regulation or restriction related to your import will be shown in the column called “Prohibited or Restricted”, indicated below by the yellow block. If no details are given for your tariff code here, no restrictions or permits apply to your goods.
