  • Remover of goods in bond

    Required to carry bonded goods between Customs controlled areas using your own bond (SARS security to cover the unpaid tax).

  • Cross border permits

    In accordance with the Cross-Border Road Transport Act 4 of 1998, cross-border road transport needs to be regulated when undertaken for business purposes. A cross border permit is required to move goods by road between South Africa and neighbouring countries.

  • Transporter / Haulier

    Required to carry bonded goods between Customs controlled areas using a different entity’s bond (SARS security to cover the unpaid tax).

  • Consignor bond

    A security (bond) submitted by a South African agent on behalf of a foreign remover of goods in bond.

  • Carrier Registration

    Necessary to submit manifests or other reports required by Customs when carrying bonded goods across a border. All road, air and sea cargo carriers registered in South Africa need this.

  • Clearing Agent (Customs broker) Registration

    SARS permission to clear goods on behalf of other importers and exporters. Freight and clearing agents (also referred to as Customs brokers) must have this registration. Companies who offer import or export freight services would likely have a registered clearing agent on staff.

  • Container depot

    A SARS facility for the storage, detention, unpacking or examination of containers or the contents of containers:

    • For delivery to an importer once the content of the container have been declared and released by Customs; or
    • For packing of containers for export.

  • Degrouping depot

    A SARS facility where air cargo may be removed from a transit shed for:

    • The storage, detention, unpacking or examination of consolidated packing or its contents;
    • Removal to another degrouping depot; or
    • Delivery to an importer once the content of the cargo have been declared and released by Customs.

  • Deferment Account Application

    Application for a SARS facility allowing an importer to clear goods immediately and pay outstanding income tax monthly on an account basis.
