This course is suitable for all levels, and for importers and exporters as well as their service-providers. It runs from 09h00 to 16h00 with a short break for lunch and refreshments, and it addresses the role of commercial terms in the delivery of cargo.
Proactively, we look at the transfer of Risk, Cost and Tasks in the delivery process and how Incoterms Rules work in the 3 defined areas of International Trade; inside the country of export, inside the country of import, and between these two points or places.
However, when “bad luck” happens along the delivery route, we need to also know how commercial terms work in identifying to whom such an incident may belong; the seller or the buyer.
Specific attention is paid to;
What are the main principles that cover any type of Commercial delivery term before looking at the ICC Incoterms (r) 2020;
What is the advantage of using an “off the shelf” ICC Incoterms;
What are the main principles in the types of Incoterms Rules – the C, D & F- prefixes;
What are the seller’s main risks;
What are the buyer’s main risks;
What is the relationship between the customs process and Incoterms – and is Customs interest in Incoterms justified;
The suitable delegate does not need to have a strong understanding of Export or Import Trade as everything will be well explained with supporting documents.
The course fees include an Incoterm manual with documents showing the formation of the delivery in contracts, as well as an electronic copy of all the presentation material.
Course costs include lunch and a certificate of attendance.
About you facilitator – Jim Merrington
Jim Merrington is a well-known presenter and speaker in the freight and logistics industry, bringing over 40-years’ experience to his material.
Originally a lecturer for the Maritime Institute in Cape Town, Jim went on to found the School of Shipping there, before opening Export and Import Training (“EXIT”) in Johannesburg.
With a specific emphasis on Customs compliance Jim presents and consults on a wide-range of trade-related topics both for EXIT, and as a guest-speaker for other service-providers to the International Trade industry.
